^* The letter contains a lengthy description of the Buddhist ideas I had acquired by that time. Some of them were mistaken and veering towards Upanishadic Indian notions. I had not yet read enough to have the various teachings clear in my head. Nonetheless, I had well grasped the main theme. In order not to present an erroneous account of Buddhism I limit this edited text to the essential thrust of my thought at the time.
